SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- At least two people were killed after a landslide buried a goods truck in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Saturday.

The truck was hit by the landslide on Friday night at Piyakul Karra village of Doda district, about 230 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. (Indian-controlled Kashmir-Landslide)

DAMASCUS -- The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced Saturday the defeat of the Islamic State (IS) militant group in eastern Syria, the SDF spokesman said.

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan -- At least three Afghans were killed and 31 others wounded after two explosions rocked Lashkar Gah, capital of southern province of Helmand during the New Year celebrations on Saturday, an official said.

"The latest findings showed our three countrymen were killed and 31 injured in Saturday morning's blasts in Lashkar Gah," Nasrat Rahimi, a Ministry of Interior Affairs spokesman, told local media Tolo News TV. (Afghanistan-Explosion)

KAMPALA -- Six people have been confirmed dead and eight others injured after two vehicles got involved in a Friday night accident in the Ugandan central district of Luwero, a police spokesperson said Saturday.
