Tokyo stocks open sharply higher on bargain-hunting after tumble

TOKYO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Tuesday as investors snapped up bargains following the Nikkei index tumbling more than 3 percent a day earlier.

As of 9:15 a.m. the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 269.75 points, or 1.29 percent, from Monday to 21,246.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 22.04 points, or 1.40 percent, at 1,599.45.

Land transportation, service and construction-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
