KIEV, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian presidential candidates have spent a total of about 47.3 million U.S. dollars campaigning for the forthcoming election, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the committee, some 67 percent of the funds were used to promote the candidates in the media.

The campaign for Ukraine's presidential election scheduled for March 31 was officially launched on Dec. 31, 2018.

Initially, 44 candidates registered to compete in the election, but later five contenders withdrew from the race.

According to various opinion polls, incumbent President Petro Poroshenko, opposition politician Yulia Tymoshenko and actor Volodymyr Zelensky were viewed as frontrunners in the presidential race. Enditem
