BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.92 percent, at 2,994.94 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent lower at 9,546.51 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 4.85 points, or 0.30 percent to close at 1,634.25 points.

Some 15.46 billion shares worth 48.07 billion baht (about 1.51 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 5505.50 points, up 3.01 points from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 344 issues traded, 142 registered gains and 139 incurred losses while 63 remained unchanged.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 36.05 points, or 0.56 percent, to a level of 6,480.78 on Thursday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower on Thursday as Wall Street's retreat overnight set a negative tone with broader concerns about the outlook for the global economy also denting investor sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 344.97 points, or 1.61 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,033.76.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.19 percent higher on Thursday.
