BEIRUT, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The head of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said on Tuesday that the situation is stable along the Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel.

"We have been experiencing noticeable stability which is indicative of the effective use of our liaison and coordination mechanisms, coupled with restraint and continued engagement by the parties," UNIFIL chief Stefano Del Col said in a statement.

His remarks came during a regular meeting with senior officers from the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Israel Defense Forces at the UN position in Ras Al Naqoura.

The situation is stable despite a spike in activities and tensions over developments along the Blue Line in the last months, Del Col noted.

Discussions on Tuesday revolved around air and ground violations, the situation along the Blue Line and the discovery of tunnels.

Del Col asked all parties for prior notification of any activities planned along the Blue Line ahead of the summer, which usually sees a large number of visitors to the UNIFIL area of operations. Enditem
