ADDIS ABABA, April 6 (Xinhua) -- A traffic accident in Ethiopia's Southern regional state has left 13 people dead, state affiliated media outlet Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) reported on Saturday.

The traffic accident happened on Friday evening in Sidama zone of Southern regional state when a freight vehicle with 17 people on board, travelling on the road overturned, leaving 13 people dead, reported FBC.

Four others who received heavy injuries in the traffic accident are currently being treated in nearby medical institutions.

FBC said police has determined the cause of the crash to be the driver driving the freight vehicle beyond the speed limit of the area.

Though Ethiopia has one of the lowest per capita car ownership in the world, deadly traffic accidents are fairly common, with the blame put on bad roads, flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of safety rules. Enditem
