SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Zoo in the U.S. state of California held a special ceremony on Saturday to kick off a three-week farewell celebration for two giant pandas.

Twenty-seven-year-old female giant panda Bai Yun and her son, 6-year-old Xiao Liwu, will leave the San Diego Zoo in late April and be sent back to China, as the Zoo's conservation loan agreement with China has ended. (China-US-Panda)

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi security forces on Saturday killed a prominent Islamic State (IS) leader in the western province of Anbar, the provincial police chief said.

The IS leader, identified as Sulaiman Ahmed Mudhein, was killed in an operation carried out by a joint force from Anbar's Operations Command and provincial police commandos in a desert area near al-Razaza Lake in the southwest of the provincial capital Ramadi, located some 110 km west of Baghdad, Hadi Erzeij told Xinhua. RIO DE JANEIRO -- A bridge partially collapsed and fell into a river in Para state in northern Brazil in early hours of Saturday, and there may be victims, authorities said.

According to local authorities, part of the bridge which crosses the Moju River collapsed after a ferry crashed against one of the pillars. (Brazil-Bridge Collapse)

KHARTOUM -- Sudanese police on Saturday announced that a protester was killed in the capital Khartoum.

"The police recorded a report on death of a citizen during a riot at Al Arbaeen Street in Omdurman, along with other reports of injuries among both citizens and policemen," Hashim Abdel-Rahim, Sudanese police spokesman, said in a statement. (Sudan-Police-Protester) Enditem
