SYDNEY -- Food authorities in Australia's New South Wales (NSW) state issued a major alert on Saturday about potential salmonella contamination in batches of organic eggs on supermarket shelves, following two other similar recalls earlier this year.

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- A total of 10 militants have been killed and Taliban offensive to overrun checkpoints around Ghazni city has been repulsed, said an army statement released here Sunday.

A group of militants launched offensives to capture checkpoints in Zargar and Antan areas in the outskirts of Ghazni city, the capital of the eastern Ghazni province, early Sunday, but their attempts have been repulsed after the security forces around returned fire, forcing them to flee after leaving 10 bodies behind, the statement said.
