KABUL -- At least 14 Taliban militants have been killed and three militants wounded in separate incidents in Afghanistan as fighting rages in the country, authorities said Monday.

In one incident, five militants were killed and three others wounded after they stormed security checkpoints in Qush Tepa district of northern Jawzjan province Sunday night, the provincial government spokesman Faridoon Aniq told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Militant-Taliban)

ABUJA -- The Nigerian government on Sunday suspended all forms of mining activities in Zamfara, a northwestern state of the country.

The government also ordered all foreigners engaged in mining activities to leave the area within 48 hours, acting Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu told reporters in the capital of Abuja. (Nigeria-Mining-Ban)

KUALA LUMPUR -- A bus carrying foreign workers contracted to the MASKargo, the cargo arm of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), plunged into a drain near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), killing 11 people, authorities said Monday.

KLIA district police chief Zulkifli Adamshah said the incident which happened late Sunday also claimed the life of the Malaysian driver apart from 10 foreign workers, while many others were injured. (Malaysia-Road Accident)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- One police officer was killed and seven people were wounded in a bomb attack in Jalalabad, a city in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, a local source said.

"An improvised explosive device struck a police van running near the provincial Women Affairs Department and private Ariana University in Police District 3 roughly at 6:46 a.m. local time," the security source told Xinhua anonymously. (Afghansitan-Explosion-Death) Enditem
