TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture in the Sanriku region on the northeastern side of the island of Honshu, the weather agency here said Thursday.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor, which occurred at 5:18 p.m. local time, was centered offshore, with its epicenter at a latitude of 40.4 degrees north and longitude of 143.4 degrees east.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, the JMA said. (Japan-Earthquake)

ISLAMABAD -- Benifitting from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), local people's life, especially those living in Pakistan's southwest Gwadar, would get improved for vast economic opportunities, Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Naseer Khan Kashani has said.

NEW DELHI -- At least eight people were killed Thursday when a fast moving car rammed into a stationary truck in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The accident took place on Agra-Lucknow expressway at Fatehabad area in Agra district, about 299 km west of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. (India-Accident)

HYDERABAD, India -- The first phase of polling in India's general elections began on Thursday morning, and votes are to be polled in as many as seven different phases over the next 39 days.
