BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed lower on Thursday, dragged down by liquor makers.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 1.6 percent lower at 3,189.96 points, the biggest single-day drop since March 8. The Shenzhen Component Index fell 2.65 percent to 10,158.4.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a positive note Thursday after a rangebound session as traders remained cautious ahead of TCS & Infosys earnings scheduled to be announced Friday.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 38,607.01, 21.66 points or 0.06 percent up compared to its previous close at 38,585.35.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 68.15 points, or 1.05 percent, to a level of 6,410.16 on Thursday.

Some 398,266 transactions were booked, involving 18.9 billion copies of shares with a value of 9.9 trillion rupiah (about 699.6 million U.S. Dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved down 3.04 points, or 0.18 percent to close at 1,659.09 points.

Some 9.34 billion shares worth 40.71 billion baht (about 1.29 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,624.23, down 15.23 points or 0.93 percent, and the Emas was at 11,533.40, down 101.64 points or 0.87 percent.

There were 275 gainers, 620 losers and 390 counters traded unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.1 percent, or 3.17 points, to close at 3,330.82.

A total of 1.15 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.09 billion Singaporean dollars (about 805.47 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 229 to 181.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 280.11 points, or 0.93 percent, to 29,839.45 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,783.67 and 30,184.61. Turnover totaled 119.77 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 15.28 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.23 percent lower on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 18.48 points to 7,990.05. The all-share index went down by 10.39 points, or 0.21 percent, to 4,899.49.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.05 points to settle at 2,224.44. Trading volume stood at 395 million shares worth 5.8 trillion won (5.1 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed in choppy trade Thursday, as a firm yen weighed on exporter issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 23.81 points, or 0.11 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,711.38.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished lower on Thursday with materials, healthcare and financials weighing heavily.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 24.80 points or 0.40 percent at 6,198.70, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 22.40 points or 0.35 percent at 6,294.10. Enditem
