WINDHOEK, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Nominees for the Regional Annual Sports Awards 2019 (RASA) have been unveiled, with the voting process starting on Thursday, the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) announced.
Fledgling and accomplished athletes from nine southern African countries are set to battle for honors in the fourth edition of the RASA following the unveiling of the nominees, said the NSC.
"The voting process of the awards hosted by African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 begins on Thursday ahead of the grand ceremony scheduled to take place in Windhoek, Namibia on May 25."
"Nine of the 10 member countries who have entered nominees for RASA 2019 include Angola (coming for the first time) Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe," said the NSC.
As per the AUSC Region 5 Awards Rulebook, the primary mandate of the AUSC Region 5 is to encourage all member countries to host national sport awards preceding the RASA.
"From this year starting with Namibia, the hosting of RASA is on rotational basis, and member countries will host in alphabetical order," said the NSC. Enditem
