AMMAN, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Foreign Ministry on Thursday said that all Jordanians in Sudan are safe despite the chaotic situation in the country.

The ministry's spokesperson Sufain Qudah said in a statement that it was following up the situation of the Jordanian community in Sudan and no incident was registered.

The ministry set up a crisis room to follow up on the situation, he said, adding that the country's embassy in Sudan was in contact with the Jordanian community.

According to the ministry's figures, there are around 6,000 Jordanians living in Sudan, of whom 3,000 are students.

Following days of massive protests in the capital Khartoum, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was ousted earlier Thursday by the armed forces which announced a two-year period of transitional military rule to be followed by elections. The army also announced a state of emergency for three months. Enditem
