RIO DE JANEIRO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian giants Flamengo moved to the top of their Copa Libertadores group with a 6-1 home victory over 10-man San Jose of Bolivia on Thursday.

Former Atletico Madrid and Brazil midfielder Diego opened the scoring for the hosts at the Maracana Stadium before defender Jorge Toco was shown a straight red card for a reckless foul on Bruno Henrique.

Carlos Saucedo equalized shortly after for the visitors but Everton Ribeiro and Uruguay midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta netted either side of halftime to make it 3-1.

Ribeiro and Vitinho added two more goal in quick success and San Jose midfielder Helmut Gutierrez added to his team's misery by turning the ball into his own net two minutes from time.

The result lifted Flamengo to the top of Group D with nine points from four matches, ahead of Uruguay's Penarol on goal difference.

In Argentine capital Buenos Aires, defending champions River Plate edged closer to a berth in the knockout phase with a 3-0 victory over Alianza Lima. Matias Suarez, Lucas Martinez and Nicolas de la Cruz were on target for the hosts.

Elsewhere on Thursday night, Argentina's River Plate had a 3-0 home victory over Peru's Alianza Lima while Venezuela's Deportivo Lara drew 2-2 with Emelec in Ecuador. Enditem
