SARAJEVO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out in early Sunday morning in the Arizona wholesale market in Gradacac in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), destroying over 90 percent of the around 500 small stores.
So far, there is no news of casualties. The total economic losses are estimated at tens of millions of KM (1 U.S. dollar=1.66KM), according to local media Avaz.
The wholesale market in Gradacac, a city located in Tuzla Canton, is one of the biggest ones in the country.
The Tuzla authorities confirmed that the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning and had been largely extinguished as of press time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In a telephone interview with Xinhua, Liu Helong, head of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in BiH, who was at the scene, said among the at least 20 Chinese stores in the market, five stores in the clothing and shoe areas of the market were burned down. Each store is estimated to have suffered losses of at least 150,000 U.S. dollars .
