NEW YORK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday as Wall Street cheered a slew of stronger-than-expected corporate results.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 133.83 points, or 0.51 percent, to 26,518.60. The S&P 500 was up 8.24 points, or 0.28 percent, to 2,913.82. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 23.67 points, or 0.30 percent, to 7,999.68.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded higher as health care and financials outperformed while materials and real estate struggled.

UnitedHealth Group reported first-quarter earnings early Tuesday with both earnings and revenue beating estimates. The U.S. health care company also raised its earnings guidance for the full year. The stock rose 1.3 percent, shortly after the opening.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson, another Dow component, advanced 2.9 percent after it reported better-than-expected quarterly results.

The earnings season is off to a solid start. Of the S&P 500 companies that have reported so far, nearly 84 percent have topped analyst earnings expectations, according to CNBC, while citing FactSet data. Enditem
