YANGON -- The death toll in a vessel capsizal in northwestern Myanmar on Monday has increased to 11, a local official told Xinhua Tuesday.

With over 40 people aboard, a motorized vessel capsized Monday morning in the middle of a river while traveling to take part in celebrations of Chindwin Thingyan Festival which was being held in Monywa township. (Myanmar-Vessel Capsizal)

ISTANBUL -- Turkey's ruling party on Tuesday officially submitted its petition to the top electoral board calling for a renewal of the mayoral election in Istanbul.

"We requested the cancellation and the renewal of the election in Istanbul by using our right of extraordinary appeal," Ali Ihsan Yavuz, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party, said in a televised speech. (Turkey-Election-Renewal)

MOSCOW -- The Moscow City Court sentenced Frode Berg, a retired Norwegian border guard, to 14 years in a high security prison for spying, his lawyer said Tuesday.

"Berg said he would not appeal the verdict. We see no use in appealing it. Berg announced his intention to ask for presidential pardon after the verdict comes into force," Berg's lawyer Ilya Novikov said in a live broadcast by the TASS news agency. (Russia-Norway-Spy)

PARIS -- Paris public prosecutor Remy Heitz on Tuesday said the blaze at Notre Dame Cathedral was probably caused by accident as no signs "at this stage" pointed to a criminal purpose.
