CAPE TOWN, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major news outlets on Wednesday.

-- African National Congress (ANC) leader Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday ventured into the stronghold of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Seshego, Limpopo Province with less than a month to go before the national elections on May 8.

Ramaphosa, who is also the president of South Africa, spent the whole day moving from one section of the sprawling neighborhood to another where he held open air rallies and conducted door-to-door visits. (News24)

-- The rand slipped on Tuesday, as Moody's warned of risks to the country's last investment grade credit rating including rising government debt and slow economic growth.

At 15:36 GMT, the rand was down 0.3 percent against the U.S. currency at 14.0900 per dollar, heading for a second straight day of losses.(Eyewitness News)

-- Deputy President David Mabuza said on Tuesday land restitution remains a key ingredient in restoring dignity to those who were dispossessed.
