HARARE, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Zimbabwe's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday commissioned 39 of 300 buses which the government has secured as part of measures to ease the plight of commuters who are being ripped off by private operators.

The 300 buses are part of an overall government policy to revamp the transport sector and introduce a mass transport system, with a further 500 buses from Belarus soon to be availed. (The Herald)

-- The Zimbabwe government on Tuesday approved a 350 million dollars investment deal in which ZimCoke (Pvt) Ltd will revitalize the coke plant within Ziscosteel, creating more than 800 jobs for a company that is to employ 5,000 people at its peak.

Of the 350 million dollars, 133 million dollars will be capital injection, while 225 million dollars will cover the debt owed by Ziscosteel to German bank, KFW. (The Herald)

-- Tobacco prices have remained subdued as merchants are not happy with the arrangement the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has put in place regarding the recovery of loans advanced to farmers, an official has said.

The RBZ directed tobacco farmers to pay 70 percent of the loan amounts they sourced from merchants in United States dollars, while the balance would be settled in RTGS dollars. (Newsday)

-- An oral cholera vaccine (OCV) campaign targeting some 487, 825 people began Tuesday in Zimbabwe in the two districts most affected by Cyclone Idai.

During the campaign all residents of Chimanimani and Chipinge districts aged 12 months and older will receive the vaccine to protect them against cholera. (Newsday) Enditem
