LUSAKA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has urged the police to continue maintaining law and order, saying it was important for the country's development.

Lungu further urged citizens to continue to ensure that the country remained a beacon of peace on the African continent. (Times of Zambia)

-- Zambia is in the process of developing a national standards strategy to provide direction on the development of market driven values in all sectors of the economy, its standards agency has said.

The Zambia Bureau of Standards said the strategy was being developed with the support from the British Standards Instituted under the Commonwealth Standards Network. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia's First Lady Esther Lungu says it was unacceptable that many women and girls are still dying from preventable causes during and after childbirth.

While acknowledging notable improvements, the Zambian first lady however said no woman deserves to die during pregnancy and called for accelerated efforts to curb the trend. (The Mast) Enditem
