BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Singapore-operated Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd has agreed to fund two health-related projects of the Brunei government.

According to a statement on the Ministry of Health’s website, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday, saying that Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd will provide 120,000 Brunei dollars (88,554 U.S. dollars) for the country’s Workplace and Health (WAH!) Programme and the Happy Environment and Lifestyle (HEAL) Programme.

“(This) is one of biggest collaborations of a public private partnership (PPP) ever held between the two signatories,” said the ministry.

Gleneagles JPMC is a joint venture between Brunei’s government and Parkway Pantai Limited, a regional private healthcare group based in Singapore. The latter handles the operations of Gleneagles JPMC, which provides healthcare services to cardiac patients.

The WAH! Programme looks to encourage workplaces to provide supportive environment and actions for employees to be more active, eat healthy, be smoke-free and have good mental wellbeing.

“Its aim is to develop and strengthen workplace healthy lifestyle programmes or workplace health promotion programmes in all government ministries by the year 2021,” said the Ministry of Health.

The HEAL Programme, meanwhile, will provide support for physical activity interventions in the community settings through building, strengthening and maintaining social networks that create opportunities for physical activities. Enditem
