YAOUNDE, April 19 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and five others seriously injured on Thursday night by terror group Boko Haram in Tchakarmari, a locality in Mayo-Sava Division of the Far North region of Cameroon, local authorities said Friday.

"About midnight (Thursday) the Boko Haram sect came on a pick-up and motorcycles and attacked the locality. We recorded seven deaths, two women and five men. They also stole sheep and burned houses. Five people were also seriously injured and some are now out of danger." Far North region's governor, Midjiyawa Bakary told reporters Friday.

"Attacks always multiple during this period approaching Ramadan in rural and urban areas in the Far North region. So, we are calling on the population to be more vigilant," he added.

There were conflicting reports of the death toll. An anonymous source from the Cameroon army on Friday told Xinhua that at least nine civilians were killed by the terror group, while local residents asking not to be named contacted by Xinhua said eleven people including three children were killed.

Last week, at least four Cameroonian soldiers lost their lives in Mayo Moskota Sub-Division of the region after landing on a mine planted by terror group Boko Haram. Enditem
