CHICAGO, April 19 (Xinhua) -- General Motors (GM) on Friday launched its new Chevrolet Onix Redline compact sedan in China, expanding the brand's lineup in its second largest market.

The Onix is among the 15 Chevrolet vehicles being shown at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2019, this year's leading automotive event in China.

The compact sedan with a sporty exterior and interior is also the third Chevrolet vehicle that made its global debut in China this month.

On April 16, GM unveiled the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer compact SUV and Tracker small SUV at Auto Shanghai 2019, as part of its effort to strengthen the brand's presence in China.

"Chevrolet is bringing to China world-class vehicles that leverage GM's global resources and target our customers' specific needs," said Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM, a joint venture between the U.S. automaker and its Chinese partner.

GM and its joint ventures delivered 813,973 vehicles in China during the first quarter of 2019, down 17.45 percent from the same period last year.

Amid overall auto sales slowdown and increasing competition in China, GM and its joint ventures have planned a major model changeover this year.

The Onix is reportedly made on the new GEM platform, referring to the Global Emerging Markets. The new vehicle architecture, jointly developed by GM and SAIC, will support a new line of affordable vehicles for sale in many developing countries. Enditem
