Finnish leaders condemn attacks in Sri Lanka

HELSINKI, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Finnish political leaders on Sunday condemned the attacks that caused heavy casualties in Sri Lanka.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said in a social media release that Finland strongly condemns "these acts of terror and the people behind them". Niinisto sent his condolences to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.

Statements were issued also by Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila and Foreign Minister Timo Soini.

Over 200 people were killed and hundreds of others injured in the series of bombings in Sri Lanka on Sunday. By Sunday evening, no Finnish nationals were reported to have become the victims.

The foreign ministry gave the estimate of number of Finnish people in Sri Lanka as 160. Package tour season from Finland to Sri Lanka ended a week ago. Enditem
