Top new items in major Zambia media outlets

LUSAKA, April 22 (Xinhua)-- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Monday.

-- Authorities in Zambia have impounded 13 trucks ladder with bags of maize meal which were destined into the Democratic Republic of Congo despite a ban on the export of maize and its products.

Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga said there people have since been arrested while 9,000 bags of maize meal were found in the trucks.(Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government has urged the private sector to put in place sound business practices to strengthen their industrial capacity and diversify the production base ahead of the Tripartite Free Trade Area.

Paul Mumba Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry acting director of foreign trade said the implementation of the free tripartite agreement will spur a lot of business opportunities. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The Zambian government has asked India's Vedanta Resource which runs Konkola Copper Mines to categorically state of it has failed the operations.

Minister of Mines Richard Musukwa said the mining firm, which has been experiencing challenges would have been kicked out a long time ago, adding that the firm was being go a last chance. (Daily Nation)

-- Striking workers at the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) have vowed not to resume work until their delayed salaries are met.

Bevis Silumbe, president of the Crews and Allied Workers Union of Zambia said no amount of threat from management will make them return to work. (The Mast) Enditem
