MANILA -- The death toll from Monday's 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the northern Philippines has risen to 16, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.

Ricardo Salad, executive director of the council, said the earthquake also left 81 people injured while 14 others remained missing in central Luzon provinces of Pampanga and Zambales. (Phillippines-Earthquake)

COLOMBO -- The death toll from a string of explosions that rocked Sri Lanka on Sunday rose to 310 while over 500 were injured, the police said Tuesday.

Another minor explosion occurred in Kochchikade in the capital Colombo on Monday evening when the Bomb Disposal Squad was attempting to defuse an explosive device found in an abandoned vehicle, causing no injuries. (Sri Lanka-Bombings-Toll)

LA PAZ -- A bus crashed with another vehicle and fell into a ravine about 100 meters deep in southwestern Bolivia Sunday night, killing 25 people and injuring 24 others, police reported on Monday.

"We are working hard on rescue efforts with the help of firefighters. We are also combing the whole area for more victims. So far we have 25 dead bodies and 24 injured people," said Fernando Rojas, commander of the highway police, adding that the injured have been taken to hospital. (Bolivia-Bus Accident)

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The death toll from the collapse of two residential buildings in western Rio de Janeiro has increased to 24, local authorities said on Monday.

The last dead victim was 35-year-old Adilma Rodrigues, who was rescued alive from the debris on the first day of the rescue, but succumbed to grave injuries. Rodrigues' husband was also killed in the disaster, but fortunately her 10-year-old daughter survived. (Brazil-Building Collapse) Enditem
