ARUSHA, Tanzania, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Police chiefs from the east and central African countries are meeting in Tanzania to seek measures of controlling cross-border crimes including human trafficking and cybercrime.

Held in the country's commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, the meeting involved inspectors of general of police from countries including Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, and Mozambique.

Simon Sirro, Inspector General of Tanzania Police, said Thursday the meeting creates a platform for them to have common strategies to combat and take serious legal actions against crimes in the region and their respective countries.

"We have been working together in various matters related to our work, in this we are striving to ensure we come up with common strategies which will help identify and overcome cross border crime," he said.

According to Sirro, the collaboration will help reveal the suspects in their hideouts.

Dieudonne Amuli Bahigwa, the IGP for the Democratic Republic of Congo said the central African nation faces challenges by terrorists who have been conducting crimes and hide in neighboring countries.

He said therefore that the meeting will go a long way to control such activities and find out all the thugs in their hideouts.

Julius Kanmpiu, a representative of the Inspector General of the Kenya police said the recent incident at DusitD2 hotel in Nairobi was a terror incident, stressing there is a need to work together.

He said due to the challenge Kenya is determined to work with other countries to ensure this does not happen again.

The Inspector General of the Rwandan Police Danny Munyuza said the meeting has come at the right time when cross-border crime is an issue. Enditem
