LONDON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A major exhibition dedicated to one of Scotland's most famous engineers and inventors opened Thursday in the city of Stirling.

Artefacts linked to James Watt are featured at the Engine Shed venue in the Scottish city where the exhibition is taking place to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his invention of the condenser engine.

The free-to-enter exhibition "James Watt: Power to the World" continues until Aug. 23. Visitors will discover the impact Watt's invention had on Britain's industry and engineering, which is still evident today.

The event focuses on Watt's improvements to the steam engine and features historic artifacts. He famously improved on the 1712 Newcomen steam engine with his Watt steam engine in 1776 which paid a fundamental part in the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution in both Britain and the rest of the world.

Mark Watson, deputy head of Industrial Heritage at Historic Environment Scotland (HES), said: "This exhibition shines a spotlight on Scotland's ground-breaking inventor while looking at the impact of his work from the industrial revolution to climate change."

"We hope to showcase James Watt's global significance to a new audience and demonstrate how his work continues to influence the world today, 200 years after his death."

The Engine Shed, part of HES collection of galleries and museums, serves as a central hub for building and conservation professionals and the general public. Enditem
