MANILA -- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) revised the magnitude of the earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte in the southern Philippines on Friday to 5.5 from the earlier magnitude of 5.3.

In an updated bulletin, the institute said the strong quake, which struck at 1:26 p.m. local time, was detected at a depth of 11 km, 70 km southeast of General Luna town. (Philippines-Quake)

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Export Growth David Parker said on Friday his official visit to China has taken yet another step in the government's work to deliver a modern, sustainable economy for New Zealanders.

PHNOM PENH -- The upcoming 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition truly illustrated China's effort and commitment to promote green development, a Cambodian official has said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas firm Petronas announced Friday that it has bought 50 percent stakes in Brazil's Tartaruga Verde from petroleum multinational corporation PetrĂ³leo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras).

Petronas said in a statement that the group through its subsidiary, Petronas PetrĂ³leo Brasil Ltda. (PPBL), entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Petrobras, for a 50 percent equity in the Tartaruga Verde field (BM-C-36 Concession) and its facilities, Module III of the Espadarte field. NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday filed his nomination papers from the Varanasi parliamentary constituency in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh where he had comfortably won in last general elections held in 2014.

Polling of votes in Varanasi is scheduled to take place in the last and seventh phase to be held on May 19. So far three phases of the elections have taken place on April 11, 18 and Tuesday. (India-Election-Modi)

WELLINGTON -- Britain's Prince William on Friday met with about 160 survivors and the victims' families at Al Noor Mosque, one of the two mosques attacked on March 15 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Prince William said to survivors of the attacks, "Hate will fail to divide us."

On the second day of the Duke of Cambridge's visit to New Zealand, he visited Christchurch at Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's invitation to show the royal family's support following the shootings which killed 50 people in two mosques. (New Zealand-Prince William-Moque visit) Enditem
