KABUL -- Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani stressed achieving viable peace in his militancy-battered country through dialogue in the much-awaited consultative Loya Jirga or traditional grand assembly of elders and chieftains inaugurated here on Monday.

MADRID -- The Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) leader Pedro Sanchez said he would form a "pro-European" government in the wake of his party's victory in the Spanish general election held on Sunday.

JAKARTA -- The death toll from floods and landslides in Indonesia's western Bengkulu province and the capital of Jakarta jumped to 31 on Monday, while the search for 13 missing people was underway, disaster agency officials said.

WASHINGTON -- At least one person was killed and seven others injured in a shooting in Baltimore in the U.S. state of Maryland on Sunday afternoon, the authorities confirmed.
