Myanmar navy seizes drug ice in southernmost border town

YANGON, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar navy has seized a boat carrying a load of drug ice near a border town in southernmost Tanintharyi region, according to local police force Tuesday.
With seven fishermen on board, the boat was intercepted by the navy near Kawthoung border town last Friday.
The 1,238 packs of drug ice worth 3 billion kyats (2 million U.S. dollars) were found inside Aung Pyae Sone-1 boat near Roe Bank .
The seven fishermen were being charged by the local police under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On March 24, Myanmar navy seized over 40 billion kyats' (26.67 million U.S. dollars') narcotic drugs at sea in Tanintharyi region while conducting patrol near Kawthoung.
A total of 1,737 packs of drugs each including 1 kilogram of ice were confiscated from a vessel, 52 nautical miles northwest of Zar Det Gyi Island.
Seven men aboard were also arrested. They confessed that the vessel was transporting the drugs to western Rakhine state. Enditem
