LUSAKA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- The Zambian government has expressed concern that more girls in the country were still lagging behind in the usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba said during the commemoration of the International Girls in ICT Day said more girls needed to be encouraged to take up careers in ICTs. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- A court in central Zambia's Kapiri Mposhi district has convicted a teacher and 12 pupils for examination malpractices.

The teacher and his now former pupils were however told to pay fines failure to which they will be jailed six months simple imprisonment. (Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government says it would take legal action against mining firms failing to operate within the mandates of their licenses as it could not continue to tolerate the mining firms at the expense of local people.

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa said a committee appointed to audit the mines had submitted the report which would be used by the government in taking the necessary actions. (Daily Nation)

-- Former South African President Jacob Zuma has described Zambia's first President Kenneth Kaunda as a symbol of dedication to the complete decolonization of Africa and putting on the path of development and peace.

In a message on Kaunda's 95th birthday which fell on April 28, Zuma said Kaunda was one of the greatest leaders in the struggle to liberate the African continent from colonialism and imperialism. (The Mast) Enditem
