COLOMBO -- Catholic services in churches across Sri Lanka will be cancelled for the second consecutive week on May 5 due to the prevailing security situation, the Catholic Archbishop's House said on Thursday.

Father Edmund Tillekeratne, media spokesperson for Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, told Xinhua that the Archbishop had decided to cancel all Sunday services for the second week and people were requested to pray at home. (Sri Lanka-Catholic services-Cancel)

SEOUL -- Chief nuclear envoys of South Korea and the United States held telephone talks Thursday about situations on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

MUMBAI -- India's manufacturing activity in April grew at its slowest pace in eight months, said a release Thursday by IHS Markit which compiles the Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' index.

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan -- At least four militants have been killed and three others injured as the security forces' fighting aircraft targeted Taliban hideouts outside Tirin Kot city, the capital of southern Uruzgan province, said an army statement released here Thursday.

The fighting aircraft, according to the statement, have been targeting specific hideouts of the Taliban fighters over the past 12 hours and besides killing four insurgents and injuring three others, also destroyed the militants' weapon caches. (Afghanistan-Militants)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan on Wednesday summoned Afghan envoy over a cross-border attack by militants from Afghan side of the border, which killed at least three soldiers and injured seven others, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

A group of 60 to 70 militants from across the border from bases in Afghanistan attacked troops undertaking fencing effort along Pak-Afghan border in Alwara area of North Waziristan tribal district, the Pakistani army said earlier the day. (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Envoy) Enditem
