TRIPOLI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Thursday stressed that there will be no cease-fire in and around the capital Tripoli until the rival eastern-based army forces "return to where they came from."
Serraj made his remarks during a cabinet meeting in Tripoli, according to a statement issued by the PM's information office.
"I clarify our position to all internal and external parties that any talk of a cease-fire must be linked to the withdrawal of the aggressor forces and their return to where they came from," Serraj said.
The eastern-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign since early April to take over Tripoli from Serraj's government.
The fighting so far has killed over 370 people and displaced over 42,000 others, according to the World Health Organization.
Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Enditem
