15 human trafficking cases exposed in Myanmar in single month

YANGON, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities exposed 15 human trafficking cases last month, according to the Anti-Trafficking Police Force Friday.
Twenty-one people including two children were victimized while 39 people were taken action in connection with the cases.
During the period, Yangon region topped with seven human trafficking cases while the cases also occurred in Shan, Kachin states, Ayeyarwady and Mandalay regions, respectively.
In total 317 people including 25 children were victimized in connection with 206 human trafficking cases in the country in 2018.
Myanmar government set up an anti-human trafficking police force unit in border areas and participated in cooperation with six countries in the Mekong region and member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Under the 2005 Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law, people who smuggle women and children are sentenced to at least 10 years or up to lifetime sentence or fine.
Money or property received through trafficking will be confiscated by the government. Enditem
