Uganda to use Southern African regional football tournament as buildup for 2019 AFCON

KAMPALA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will use its invitation to the 2019 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament as a buildup to the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Edgar Watson, Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Uganda Football Association told Xinhua on Friday that Uganda has been invited as a guest team from East Africa in a tournament that will attract 14 national teams.

The tournament is scheduled to be held in Durban, South Africa from May 25 to June 8.

"This tournament will help our national team prepare well enough ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations," said Watson.

The other teams that will use the COSAFA Cup to prepare for the 2019 AFCON include South Africa, Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Other teams that will take part in the COSAFA tournament are Comoros, Mauritius, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho and Seychelles. Enditem
