AUCKLAND, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Lin Dan suffered a 21-13, 21-11 loss to NG Ka Long of Hong Kong in the men's singles semi-finals of New Zealand Open on Saturday.

It was an unexpected loss in only 34 minutes. Yet the double Olympic champion admitted that he had "consumed a lot of energy" at Eventfinda Stadium.

Ng will meet the third seed Jonatan Christie in tomorrow's final. The Indonesian won his semi-final match against Japan's fifth-seeded Kanta Tsuneyama 17-21, 21-15, 21-14.

There was good news for China in the women's singles. Sixth seed Li Xuerui beat Japan's top seed Yamaguchi 13-21, 21-19, 21-13 in 50 minutes to book her place in the final. The former Olympic champion is still making her comeback on the court after suffering anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus injuries during Rio Olympics 2016.

Xuerui will meet the unseeded Se Young An of South Korea, who overcame Japan's seventh-seeded Aya Ohori 21-17, 19-21, 21-13 on Saturday.

In men's doubles top seeded Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda were defeated by their compatriots and third seeds Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe 12-21, 21-23 in 50 minutes. Women's doubles top seeds Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota fell to South Koreans Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong 21-18, 22-24, 18-21. Enditem
