JAKARTA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- A terror suspect was killed after he detonated explosive materials strapped in body in a police raid on Jakarta's outskirt area of Bekasi on Sunday.
The killed suspect was one of two chased by Indonesian police’s anti-terror squad of Densus 88 following several arrests of their accomplices on Saturday.
“Yes, (there were) two people. One was arrested alive, another one blew himself up,” Bekasi Police Chief Indarto was quoted by local media as saying.
White smoke and fire engulfed the body of the suspect after an explosion went off in the raid, Indarto said.
On Saturday morning, members of Densus 88 arrested three terror suspects.
The chase against the other two terror suspects on Sunday was on the information extracted from those arrested on Saturday.
Those detained were identified as members of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), a banned homegrown radical organization that stated its allegiance to the Islamic State (IS).
Indonesia Police Headquarters Spokesperson Dedi Prasetyo said that the arrested suspects planned attacks targeting police assigned to secure the elections process. Enditem
