MACAO -- Macao's M2 monetary supply in March grew 9.6 percent year-on-year while M1 grew 5.4 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region's monetary watchdog said here on Monday.

According to statistics released by the Monetary Authority of Macao, currency in circulation fell 1.2 percent month-to-month whereas demand deposits rose 1.0 percent. M1 thus increased 0.5 percent from one month earlier. Meanwhile, quasi-monetary liabilities grew 1.3 percent. (Macao-M2)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's police on Monday said security has been further beefed up in Negombo on the outskirts of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo following violent clashes which erupted on Sunday night.

Police Spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekara told Xinhua that the clashes had erupted due to a personal dispute between two individuals which soon escalated between two groups clashing on streets. (Sri Lanka-Negombo-Security)

SYDNEY -- Minerals Council of Australia Chief Executive Tania Constable has highlighted the importance of an ongoing trade relationship with China, saying Australia missed an "opportunity" by not signing up to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) earlier.

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Up to 35 militants, including 13 Islamic State (IS) fighters, have joined peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, provincial government said Monday.

"On Sunday, 22 militants loyal to the Taliban group and 13 others affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist outfit, gave up war and joined peace process along with their arms, under the efforts of the provincial national security directorate," the government said in a statement. COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan police on Monday said a time period had been granted to the public to surrender illegal weapons after several swords, knives and sharp daggers were found from homes and places of worship during raids conducted in recent weeks.

The police said in a statement that anyone possessing illegal weapons could hand it over to their nearest police station on Monday and Tuesday and urged the public to corporate. (Sri Lanka-Weapons) Enditem
