BAGHDAD -- Iraq on Monday strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli airstrikes against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, which led to the death of many civilians and the destruction of infrastructure, the Foreign Ministry said.

"We condemn the escalation against our Palestinian people and call for an immediate intervention by the United Nations to put an end to it," the ministry said in a statement.

JERUSALEM -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the two-day bloody campaign in the Gaza Strip is not over and Israel is "prepared to continue."

Speaking after a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas was reportedly achieved, Netanyahu said "the campaign is not over."

He said the fighting "demands patience and sagacity" and Israel is "prepared to continue."

CARACAS -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Sunday the Kremlin has condemned Washington's so-called campaign to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, urging the United States to cancel its "irresponsible" plans.

"We reaffirmed solidarity with the friendly people of Venezuela and support for the legitimate president elected by the Venezuelan people on May 20, 2018," Lavrov said Sunday, adding that Russia is ready to join possible efforts of international and regional mediators like the "Montevideo mechanism," which was jointly proposed by Mexico and Uruguay and backed by other countries.
