TOKYO, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks fell sharply Wednesday morning following a rout on Wall Street overnight as investor concerns mount about the outlook for the global health of the economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 339.46 points, or 1.55 percent, from Tuesday to 21,584.26.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 26.56 points, or 1.66 percent, at 1,573.28.
All industry categories retreated into negative territory, with precision instrument, air transportation, and glass and ceramics product-linked issues comprising notable decliners by the morning break. Enditem
