HOUSTON, May 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. crude oil imports and exports both decreased during the week ending May 3, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday.

U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.7 million barrels per day (b/d) last week, down by 721,000 b/d from the previous week, while crude oil exports averaged 2.3 million b/d, down by 289,000 b/d from the previous week, according to the Weekly Petroleum Status Report.

Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 6.8 million b/d, 15.6 percent less than the same four-week period last year, while crude oil exports averaged about 2.5 million b/d, up by about 477,500 b/d year-on-year.

According to the EIA's latest Short-Term Energy Outlook released on Tuesday, U.S. net imports of crude oil and petroleum products fell from an average of 3.8 million b/d in 2017 to 2.3 million in 2018.
