Vietnam seizes nearly 8 kg of illicit drug sent from Europe

HO CHI MINH CITY, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Customs forces and police of Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have found nearly 8 kg of ecstasy pills in postal parcels sent from Germany and Portugal, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday.

The ecstasy pills were hidden in three parcels, two from Portugal and one from Germany, which were registered as non-commercial gifts. Names and addresses of the receivers were bogus.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty. Enditem
