AMMAN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The cabinet reshuffle in the government of Jordan's Prime Minister Omar Razzaz approved on Thursday seeks to improve government's performance to deal with challenges, state-run Petra news agency reported.

The cabinet reshuffle, which is the third in the government of Razzaz, followed extensive assessment of the performance of ministries, Razzaz said in an official statement on Thursday.

The prime minister said that the Jordanian government succeeded in overcoming major challenges over the past period, adding that the government will continue to address economic challenges and their impact on Jordanians.

The new government, he said, will focus on attracting investments and opening new horizons for Jordan's economy to create much-needed jobs and alleviate poverty.

Jordan's unemployment rate reached 18.6 percent during the fourth quarter of 2018, up by 0.2 percent from the figures of same period of 2017.

The country is working on several programs to create jobs and trigger economic growth to address challenges amid modest economic growth.

Jordan's economy is expected to grow by 2.3 percent in 2019 and witness a slight increase in 2020 and 2021, a report of World Bank said.

On Thursday, King Abdullah II of Jordan approved a cabinet reshuffle that saw the entry of seven new ministers. The reshuffle included a new portfolio for digital economy and entrepreneurship.

"This ministry will work on creating the necessary environment and digital platforms and legislation to support innovation and entrepreneurship to enhance creativity among Jordanians," Razzaz said.

The prime minister added that the new government will focus on addressing unemployment, which is the main challenge facing the Jordanian youth, and will continue its efforts to create jobs as it pledged to create 30,000 jobs this year. Enditem
