TOKYO, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as firms reporting solid earnings attracted buying on dips, although gains were capped by ongoing global economic concerns.

In the opening minutes from the morning bell, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 84.70 points, or 0.40 percent, from Thursday to 21,486.83.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 6.04 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,556.75.
