BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 3.10 percent, at 2,939.21 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 4.03 percent higher at 9,235.39 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 4.38 percent to close at 1,533.87 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed marginally lower Friday.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 37,462.99, down 95.92 points, or 0.26 percent, compared to its previous close at 37,558.91.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.12 percent, or 3.80 points, to close at 3,273.50.

The STI index went down 0.43 percent, or 14.14 points, to close at 3,269.70 on Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,610.27 down 8.26 points or 0.51 percent, and the Emas was at 11,374.96 down 53.02 points or 0.46 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 239.17 points, or 0.84 percent, to 28,550.24 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,203.22 and 28,833.45. Turnover totaled 125.03 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 15.93 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 952.55 points on Friday, up 5.54 points, or 0.58 percent against the previous trading day.

On Friday, VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 876.45 points, up 4.95 points or 0.57 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 105.86 points on Friday, up 0.6 points or 0.57 percent from the previous trading session.

Nearly 33.6 million shares worth 432.3 billion Vietnamese dong (18.8 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 1.4 million shares valued at roughly 30 billion Vietnamese dong (1.3 million U.S. dollars), and sold nearly 1.3 million shares valued at 19 billion Vietnamese dong (825,652 U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.17 percent lower on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 13.42 points to 7,742.20. The all-share index went down by 16.59 points, or 0.35 percent, to 4,791.26.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as earlier gains on dip-buying were erased as investor sentiment turned risk averse following heightened concerns about the outlook for the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 57.21 points, or 0.27 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,344.92.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 6.03 points, or 0.29 percent, to settle at 2,108.04. Trading volume stood at 701.7 million shares worth 6.2 trillion won (5.3 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Friday with all sectors making gains except materials which edged marginally lower.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 15.60 points or 0.25 percent at 6,310.90, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 15.80 points or 0.25 percent at 6,393.10.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped slightly by 0.15 percent to 10,089 on Friday.

The drop was led by SeaDragon Limited, which produces Omega-3 bioactive compounds from local fish. The company was down by 33.33 percent to 0.002 NZ dollars (0.0013 U.S. dollars), while ikeGPS Group jumped by 16 percent to 0.58 NZ dollars.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 3.71 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 582.39.
