CAPE TOWN, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major media outlets on Saturday.

-- The number of spoilt votes in KwaZulu-Natal Province have dramatically increased to 44,246, a figure that is bigger than the number of voters who voted for the Minority Front, African Transformation Movement and African Christian Democratic Party combined.

This is also the highest number of spoilt votes in the country which held its general elections on Wednesday, and the lowest number of votes that were spoilt are in the sparsely populated province of the Northern Cape where only 4,984 votes became null and void. (Independent-Online)

-- Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) CEO Sy Mamabolo said on Friday that vote counting was nearing conclusion with 96.6 percent of voting stations across South Africa having declared their results by 8:15 p.m. on Friday night.

The following provinces have already concluded: Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape and the Western Cape, with Gauteng being the only province where there was still some work to be done, Mamabolo said.(Eyewitness News)

-- The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Friday welcomed the reports of international and domestic observer missions that have endorsed South Africa's elections as free and fair.
