BRATISLAVA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Team Switzerland showed no mercy in their Group B opener of the World Hockey Championship in Slovakia, beating Italy 9-0 on Saturday.
It's the first game for Italy since returning to the elite division, and became a disaster rather quickly, as Switzerland, the runners-up last year, outscored them 4-0 in the first period.
Kevin Fiala scored a hat trick and added one assist. Switzerland dominated over their opponents 61-19 in shots on goal, with goaltender Reto Berra stopping Italy's every attempt.
On Sunday, Switzerland will play Latvia while Italy face Sweden, the two-time defending champions. Enditem
