KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Up to 15 Taliban militants, including four foreign insurgents, were killed and four people were arrested in Afghanistan's eastern restive province of Ghazni, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Afghan National Army commandoes conducted an operation in Gosfandi, a village on the outskirts of provincial capital Ghazni city, killing 15 armed militants, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said.

"Afghan commandoes have seized documents, weapons and vehicles following the raid," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, personnel of National Directorate of Security, the country's intelligence agency, have arrested four terrorists in Ghazni city and surrounding areas in the past two days, Harif Noori, spokesperson of the provincial government, told Xinhua.

The arrestees were responsible for terrorist attacks and bomb explosions in Ghazni.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since the beginning of 2015 when the Afghan security forces assumed full responsibilities of security from the United States and NATO troops.

The militants have intensified attacks against security forces and staged several coordinated attacks against Afghan cities and districts since early April when the Taliban's annual rebel offensive started.

The Taliban has not made a comment on the reports yet. Enditem
