ISLAMABAD -- The Pakistani government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an agreement on a bailout package for Pakistan, Adviser to the Pakistani prime minister on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Abdul Hafeez Shaikh announced on Sunday.
Talking to the Pakistan Television Network (PTV), Shaikh said that the technical teams of Pakistan and the IMF have agreed on a bailout package for a period of three years under which Pakistan would receive 6 billion U.S. dollar assistance. (Pakistan-IMF-Bailout)

MANILA -- At least three explosions rocked city of Cotabato and neighboring Maguindanao province in the southern Philippines a few hours before a national midterm election, military and police authorities said on Monday.
Lieutenant Teofisto Ferrer of the Cotabato City police said the first explosion occurred around 10:15 p.m. local time Sunday night just outside the Cotabato City hall compound.
Ferrer said the explosion was caused by a mortar fired by a still unknown suspect using a grenade launcher. (Philippines-Explosion-Election)

TEHRAN -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday expressed concerns about recent actions against ships in the Sea of Oman.

FARAH, Afghanistan -- At least six Taliban militants were killed, and three government troop soldiers and nine militants were wounded after clashes flared up in western Afghan province of Farah overnight, local police said on Monday.
"The clashes occurred after Taliban militants attacked defensive posts in two villages of Pusht Rod district, north of provincial capital Farah city. Security forces repelled the attackers and defused two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) after the fighting," provincial police spokesman Muhibullah Muhib told Xinhua.
